Mar. 22/13 Weekly Update for Mar.25 - 29
Weekly Update!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, especially grade 8's: I have been stepping up the work for you. I am hoping to prepare you as best as I can for high school. The majority of you are rising to the challenge with such fervor, such tenacity, that I feel scarcely three seconds ahead of you!!! It's incredible. I am so proud of you. Many, many of you are taking risks with your learning; you are thinking outside of the box; you are pushing yourself. These characteristics will help you in any subject! Well done. Now, onward!!
Class 7/8A Advisory:
I hope you are recording the information we discussed:
- hours of sleep
- food you are eating
- focus time, and
- exercise
We will be looking at these data during our next class. Please do not forget it!
Grade 7 Classes:
I have been threatening/promising you with a Science Poster for a couple of weeks now. Well, it's coming! We will create a science poster to review all of the concepts we have studied since January. Artistry not your thing? No problemo! You can create a slide show/prezi/something online.
Grade 8 Classes:
We will continue on with our Chemistry experiments - this time, there will be stations and you will rotate through. We are stepping up the pace! You have the skills - now you have to put them to good use. Be ready to work quickly!
Grade 8D Class:
Fluids - we will be continuing with our Fluids Unit. Please make sure you understand the concepts introduced so far. Next class will be a working period; we will save our fluids experiment for one more week. If you would like to work ahead, keep reading the textbook and create study notes from what you are learning.

Friday, March 8, 13. Class 8D:
Class 8D: Fluids Assignment: Due by next Period (March 22nd)
A. Page 91 Q. 5
Research the importance of air resistance in your favourite high-speed sport. Use the particle theory, laminar flow and turbulent flow to help explain what is happening. Include a minimum of 1 diagram to show drag, aerodymanic shapes, etc.
B. Page 93 Questions 5
Plan an experiment to help you rank the following fluids in order, from least viscous to most viscous: shampoo, melted chocolate, cooking oil, air and cola.
Write up as an experiment using our Scientific Method Outline. Be ready to do it next period and show your work.

Class 8C Science:
Put one hand on wood and another on metal.
1. Do these surfaces feel the same temperature?
2. Would these surfaces be the same temperature if you measured with a thermometer?
3. Why do they feel different? Use Heat Conduction and Kinetic Energy in your answers.
ALSO:
Biggest Gummy Bear so far - weighing in at 63.7grams, belonged to Sheldon Kerr!!! Well done, Sheldon!!

Classes 7B and 7C Science:
Well done today ladies and gentlemen!! Your homework is the Experiment questions. Here is the link to the questions:
Conduction Experiment Notes and Questions
You were also given the Gummy Bear Experiment! This experiment is to be done at home. It is due March 22nd. That gives you tons of time! You have a choice: You may do the answers to the questions right on the sheets I gave to you, or, you may write it up as an experiment, following the Scientific Method Steps. Here is the Gummy Bear Experiment:
