Before I write about next week, please let me thank you - each and every Intermediate Student and Intermediate Teacher at JD Hogarth:
- it was cold,
- it was damp,
- it was soggy,
- and yet we planted 2500 trees in a morning.
Thank you so much for your help.

And a huge thank you to our parents, who had about 5 minutes notice to come on the trip. I get paid to hang out with teenagers - you don't!!!! Thank you.

Tuesday, May 21/13 Final Experiment Assignment

Final Experiment Assignment:

All of you need to choose/create/design a final experiment for Science. Here are the criteria:

  • You need to follow the Scientific Method Format:  Final Experiment
  • You may work alone, or with a partner
  • You need to submit your Question, some Background Information and Materials' list to me for approval. Once you have approval, then you can proceed with your experiment.
  • Work can be done at home and at school. If your experiment is to be done at home, then you need to make sure you have your parents' permission and supervision.
  • You must submit all of your work on the Cloud.
  • I expect you to do above and beyond just the 7 steps of the scientific method. A Title page, photos, diagrams, videos, interviews, links to useful websites, blogs, etc. are expected. IMPRESS ME!!!!
I expect:
  • A final report: showing all steps taken in the scientific process (this can be done orally, in the form of a video, if approved by me first.)
  • Oral presentation: 5 to 7 minute presentation to the class (can be done ahead of time and presented to the class, such as a YouTube video.)

Thursday, May 2/13

7B &C Science: Wow. That was one fantastic day. We learned how to take the temperature, depth, flow rate of a river; we identifed aquatic life both above (water striders) and below (BMI's) the water's surface. You were all wonderful. You were fantastic. It is an absolute privilege to be your teacher. Thank you. And, a huge thanks goes to Mr. Lyons! You rock Mr. Lyons! Thanks for coming with us today!

Wednesday, May 1/13

Arts Day was a great success!!! Thank you so much Ms. Ray, for organizing such a fun day. In our Improv Class, everyone participated so well, and we definitely had two stars: Charlie and Ben! WOW! Fantastic job!

7D Science: Yes, I would like you to redo your Freezing Experiment. I have sent all of you an email on the Cloud, explaining all of the steps needed to complete the assignment correctly. You have three choices:
1. Come in Make Up Science Class on Friday, 2nd N.B. and do it then;
2. Do it individually at home and hand it in (by Wednesday, but I am flexible!)
3. Keep your mark (which is a fail) and not do it again.

Why do we redo assignments? To learn. That is it. If I was a lazy teacher, I would take substandard work. I am not, and I want you to do your very best.
